A History of Success.......

Leasing large numbers of big ranches in key areas is the foundation for providing you with an exceptional archery whitetail hunt in Nebraska at Gobble n Grunt Outfitters.  It's what we've been doing for 17 years now.  Unlike many outfitters who's success is a "flash in the pan", shooting good bucks for a couple of years until they've killed their mature bucks, we truly manage our harvest to ensure that our trophy buck population gets better and better every year.  And it has!  With 70,000 acres of private land to hunt, having elbow room, plenty of deer and a good age structure is not a problem.  At Gobble n Grunt, we literally were practicing QDM before it had a name.

The challenge is SCOUTING.  Breaking down these vast acreages to find the best places for you to spend your time on stand is the hard part.  That's why we watch our deer with trail cameras, starting in august, so that we can nail down the areas where the best numbers of vulnerable mature deer are.  When I say vulnerable, I mean where a big mature buck is coming out to feed during or near daylight hours.  We hunt feeding trails that we've found big bucks using in September and October.  Then we switch up to generational rut areas and funnel areas during the pre rut hunts of late October and early November.  We re-set the trail cams and put in plenty of good old fashioned on site scouting at distance to locate the best bucks during this time when bucks pushing each other around, breaking out of their bachelor groups and leaving the field edges to stake claim to what will be their home during the rut.

Above: Gary Gapinski of Michigan connected on this great 159'' gross buck in on an early season, feeding trail hunt in Sept of '07.  If he had downloaded his second tag ahead of time, he could have also had his choice of a 130 or a 150 buck within minutes of taking this buck.  (Outfitter's fault, I recommend that guys get their first buck on the ground before spending the money on the second tag.  If I make that recommendation to you, feel free to not listen and download both tags before your hunt!)  Anyway, he shot some great video of those other two bucks!  This is not uncommon in September as the bucks are still in bachelor groups.
Below:  Gary Gapinski's buck caught on trail cam by us in August.

Above: Frank Bozich of New Jersey shot a nice Muley in 2006 and followed up with this great Whitetail in 2007.  Another great buck scouted and harvested.  The pre-rut is great for bowhunting but it's hard on cameras.  We damage several cameras every year by bucks rubbing on the camera tree.  This buck tilted the camera before this shot.  The next shot taken by the camera was of the deers belly.  We dug the camera out of the mud a few days later.

Above: Peter Gray of New Jersey shot this 2007 buck which had posed as nice as any buck ever posed for a trail cam, just a few days earlier.

The ones that got away.........
Two days, Two Bucks! Greg May of Texas took advantage of Nebraska's two buck limit by bow-killing these two bucks less than 24 hours apart in 2007.  The buck on the left grossed 140.  There are few places where you can have a bowhunt like this!
Below:  Both of Greg's bucks were caught on trail cam earlier that year.

Another two buck hunt: Gary Joseph of New York returned to Nebraska in 2007 after a successful 2006 hunt.  In '07 he bowkilled two great Nebraska bucks out of the same tree stand!
Below:  Gary's bucks were pretty used to getting their picture taken!

Velvet Buck in November? Paul Kneeland of California found the only buck in the area that was not interested in the rut.  This 13 point stag was rifle shot by Paul in 2007.  Not surprising that we caught this buck on trail cam time and again.
Below:  Stags do not participate in the rut and though rare, they remain patternable to food right through the rut.

Some bucks are hard to catch on trail cam.   Randy Mourar of Pennsylvania shot a buck that we did NOT have on trail cam.  We do have muleys too, and can usually come up with a few good ones every year.
